Overview
Jugal Himal Base Camp Trek is one of Nepal’s most beautiful and less-explored Himalayan adventures, located in the remote mountains of Sindhupalchok. The trek offers a perfect combination of spectacular Himalayan scenery, peaceful forests, traditional mountain villages, Buddhist culture, alpine meadows, glaciers and an authentic wilderness experience. The journey begins from Kathmandu and follows a scenic drive towards Tembathang, a traditional Himalayan settlement. From Tembathang, the trail gradually enters the remote Jugal Himal wilderness through Dipu, Chhendang, Ne-Pemachhal and Bomba Sherpu/Yang Kharka before reaching the magnificent Jugal Himal Base Camp at approximately 4,500–4,700 metres. Along the trail, trekkers experience dense rhododendron, pine and oak forests, waterfalls, streams, high pasturelands and dramatic mountain landscapes. The spiritual character of the region is another major attraction, with sacred sites associated with Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) and Buddhist meditation traditions. The Base Camp area provides an unforgettable high-altitude experience surrounded by rugged Himalayan peaks, glaciers and pristine wilderness. This trek is particularly suitable for adventure seekers looking for a quiet, authentic and off-the-beaten-path Himalayan experience away from crowded trekking routes.

02KATHMANDU – TEMBATHANG
After an early breakfast, we drive from Kathmandu towards Sindhupalchok. The journey passes through Dolalghat, Chautara and beautiful rural landscapes, with terraced farmland, rivers, forests and traditional villages. As we continue, the road gradually becomes more rugged and mountainous. The final section involves an off-road mountain drive towards Tembathang. Tembathang is a peaceful traditional Himalayan settlement surrounded by green hills and mountain landscapes. We settle into a local homestay/lodge and enjoy the warm hospitality of the local community.
03TEMBATHANG – DIPU – CHHENDANG
Today marks the beginning of our trekking adventure. After breakfast, we leave Tembathang and follow a beautiful mountain trail through forests and traditional settlements. The route passes through Dipu and Chidakpu, where we can observe the simple lifestyle and culture of the local Himalayan communities. The trail gradually climbs and descends through forests, farmland and peaceful mountain terrain. As we approach Chhendang, the landscape becomes more remote and the surrounding Himalayan environment becomes increasingly impressive.
04CHHENDANG – NIMALA – CHACHUNG KHARKA – TONGSYUP CAVE – NE-PEMACHHAL
Today is one of the most scenic and culturally significant sections of the trek. We leave Chhendang and gradually climb through dense Himalayan forests towards Nimala and Chachung Kharka. The trail passes through peaceful forests, grazing areas and several mountain streams. We continue towards Tongsyup Cave, a spiritually important rock shelter traditionally associated with Buddhist meditation. The trail then continues towards Ne-Pemachhal, a beautiful high-altitude valley and important pilgrimage/meditation area connected with Guru Rinpoche traditions. The landscape begins to change dramatically as we gain altitude. Forests become thinner, the air becomes cooler and the surrounding mountain ridges become increasingly
05NE-PEMACHHAL – BOMBA SHERPU / YANG KHARKA
Today we enter the high alpine environment of the Jugal Himal region. After breakfast, we leave Ne-Pemachhal and continue climbing towards Bomba Sherpu/Yang Kharka. The vegetation gradually becomes sparse and the landscape opens into wide alpine pastures. The trail passes through yak-grazing areas, rocky terrain and mountain ridges. As we gain elevation, spectacular Himalayan peaks begin to dominate the skyline. Because we are now above 4,000 metres, we maintain a slow and comfortable walking pace and take regular breaks to allow the body to adjust to the altitude.

07YANG KHARKA – NE-PEMACHHAL – CHHENDAN
After breakfast, we begin our descent from the high alpine region. The trail follows the same beautiful mountain landscape back towards Ne-Pemachhal. As we lose altitude, the vegetation becomes thicker and the air becomes warmer. After passing Ne-Pemachhal and the forested sections, we continue towards Chhendang. The long downhill walk provides a completely different perspective of the landscapes we experienced during the ascent. We reach Chhendang in the late afternoon and enjoy a well-deserved rest.
08CHHENDANG – DIPU – TEMBATHAN
